Student moves, piano hauls and last-minute apartment loads
Most of the calls we get at Aggie Movers Company start the same way: "I've never hired movers before — how does this actually work?" Fair question. Moving is one of those things people do a handful of times in their lives, usually under pressure, usually with a lease date breathing down their neck. This page collects the questions we hear most often from students, families, landlords and office managers around College Station and Bryan, with straight answers instead of sales talk.
Owner Wailan Watson runs the company, and that matters more than it sounds. When you ask about a tight stairwell at a Northgate fourplex or whether an upright piano can come down a wooden porch, you're talking to people who have done that exact job before and will tell you honestly if it's a two-man or a four-man problem.
What it costs, what we bring, and what we need from you
Every move gets priced on what it actually involves — the size of the load, how far it travels, and how hard the access is at both ends. A one-bedroom apartment going three blocks is a completely different animal from a four-bedroom house heading to San Antonio, and we'd rather quote each one properly than print a number on a page that turns out to be wrong for you.
Here's what tends to move the price up or down on a job:
- Volume — how many rooms, and whether the garage, attic and storage unit are coming too
- Distance — a cross-town shuffle in Bryan versus a long haul to Houston, Dallas or Austin
- Access — stairs, elevators, long carries from the curb, narrow drives, gated complexes
- Specialty items — pianos, safes, gun cabinets, appliances, oversized mirrors and glass tops
- Packing — whether you've boxed everything yourself or want us to handle it
To get an accurate number quickly, have a rough inventory ready: number of bedrooms, any large furniture, and the floor you're on at each address. Photos of a tricky staircase or a crowded garage help enormously. If you tell us a king bed has to come down a spiral stair, we plan for it rather than discovering it on the day.
On our side, we show up with dollies, hand trucks, straps, blankets and shrink wrap, and we pad and wrap furniture before it goes on the truck. What we need from you is clear walkways, pets secured, and anything you don't want touched set aside and labeled. Simple stuff, but it keeps a move calm.
From Northgate to Dallas: the 24 towns and cities we load for
We're based in the Brazos Valley and we work both ends of the map — short local hops and long runs across Texas. Our service area covers College Station, Bryan, Millican, Snook, Iola, Anderson, Somerville, Navasota, Roans Prairie, Washington, Lyons, Mumford, Caldwell, North Zulch, Bedias, Wheelock, Hearne, Brenham, Madisonville, Rockdale, Houston, Dallas, Austin and San Antonio.
If your town isn't on that list but sits close to one that is, ask anyway. Long-distance jobs out of College Station to the big four metros are routine for us, so a destination a little past Austin or an origin a little past Madisonville is usually still workable.
Still stuck on a detail? Tell us about your move
The fastest way to get a real answer is to describe your move to us: where you're going, what's coming with you, and when the keys change hands. We'll tell you what crew size it needs and what it should cost — and if your job isn't a good fit for us, we'll say so instead of wasting your week. Call Aggie Movers Company at (979) 764-2928 and we'll talk it through.
